Once again the St. Louis & Southeastern was bought out and became the Henderson Division of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad.  About the same time (1879) L&N secured control of the Henderson Bridge Company which had proposed the building of the Ohio River Bridge.  This bridge and its approaches had a total length of 27,995 feet and the channel span of 525 feet was the largest trestle span in the world at that time.  The new structure was a thing of beauty and was entirely adequate for the traffic of that day.  The bridge, completed and opened for traffic on 13 Jul 1885 at a total cost of about $2,000,000.00.
